Effect Of Dietary Fiber Intake On Blood Pressure

Dietary fiber is part of a healthy diet and may exert a protective effect in the cardiovascular system.
Effect of dietary fiber intake on blood pressure. This review assessed the effect of dietary fibre on blood pressure bp and concluded that increased consumption of dietary fibre may reduce bp in patients with hypertension. We performed a meta analysis of randomized placebo controlled trials to estimate the effect of fiber supplementation on bp overall and in population subgroups. A smaller non conclusive reduction in bp was observed in patients with normal bp although further trials were recommended.
Using a standardized protocol information on study design sample size participant characteristics duration of follow up and change in mean bp was abstracted. We conducted a meta analysis of 25 randomized controlled trials published in english language journals before february 2004 to assess the effect of dietary fiber intake on blood pressure bp. The effect of fiber intake on blood pressure bp has not yet been established.
